SS304 stainless steel can be suitable for many wet waste dewatering applications, including certain fruit and vegetable residues, kitchen waste and other general organic materials. Suitability depends on the process chemistry, operating temperature, cleaning agents and abrasive content.
SS304 is not corrosion-proof. Where chloride exposure or aggressive chemicals are involved, another material grade or a more detailed engineering review may be necessary.
Stainless steel is used in wet processing equipment because it combines corrosion resistance with useful mechanical properties and cleanability. SS304 is a common general-purpose grade, but the actual environment determines whether it is appropriate.
The Australian Stainless Steel Development Association's Grade 304 guide explains both the strengths and limitations of this grade.
For screw press applications, material selection should consider not only the main frame or housing but also the components exposed to wet feed and separated liquid. HUATAO's screw press dewatering equipment provides a starting point for evaluating the machine type.
Fruit peels, pulp, stems and vegetable residues have varying fiber structures and liquid characteristics. SS304 may be appropriate when the process environment is compatible with the grade.

Mixed kitchen waste may contain oils, salts, food residues and cleaning chemical residues. The variability of the feed makes it important to review the actual operating conditions.
See HUATAO's screw press dehydrator for kitchen waste and kitchen and organic waste selection guide.
Spent grain is a fibrous wet by-product from brewing. Material compatibility should be assessed along with the mechanical requirements of conveying and pressing.
Related resources include the spent-grain screw press and the HTYZ200 screw press.
Manure and mixed organic solids may contain minerals, bedding, grit and other contaminants. These can affect corrosion exposure, wear and cleaning requirements.
See the solid and liquid separator, HT Series manure separator with automatic feeding, and manure dewatering material guide.
These application references do not replace a material compatibility assessment for a specific installation.
SS304 may be unsuitable where chloride exposure, certain acids or aggressive cleaning chemicals create a significant corrosion risk. The British Stainless Steel Association's guidance on hydrochloric acid notes that common grades such as 304 and 316 should not be assumed suitable for hydrochloric acid service.
SS316 may offer better resistance to some chloride-related corrosion conditions than SS304, but it is not universally resistant to all chemicals. Where exposure is severe, obtain a grade selection recommendation based on the actual chemistry, concentration and temperature.
Ask the equipment supplier to clarify the material specification of the screw, screen cylinder, housing and other parts that contact the feed or liquid. The machine may contain components made from different materials because they perform different functions.
Screen construction also matters for the machine's dewatering performance. Review the screw press screen cylinder and wedge wire screen information when discussing screen selection.
Confirm the material being processed and the composition of the separated liquid.
Identify any known chloride content, salt concentration, acids or cleaning chemicals.
Provide the expected operating temperature and cleaning frequency.
Describe abrasive particles, grit or other contaminants in the feed.
Ask which wetted components are made of SS304 and which use other materials.
Request a material compatibility review if the environment is chemically aggressive or varies significantly over time.
SS304 is a useful general-purpose stainless steel for many wet waste dewatering applications, but its suitability must be established from the actual process conditions. Reviewing chemistry, temperature, cleaning practices and component specifications helps avoid choosing a material based only on a general description.
